Not much going on in the way of rumors this weekend, here is a quick update on the draft from what i have heard. Virtually the entire back end of the 2nd round has been shaken up in the latest mock. Anybody i crossed out means that I updated them in a later mock.
Edit: I created version 2.1 earlier today, and then I received a new rumor, so I just made it 3.0. Check the Texans 2nd round pick for the newest rumor.
1st Round
1. Detroit Lions – Adrian Peterson (23)
2. Cleveland Browns – Steven Jackson (24)
3. Miami Dolphins – Ladanian Tomlinson (29)
4. Buffalo Bills – Joseph Addai (25)
5. Seattle Seahawks – Frank Gore (25)
6. Arizona Cardinals – Clinton Portis (26)
7. New York Giants – Brian Westbrook (28 )
8. Washington Redskins – Randy Moss (31) Marshawn Lynch (22)
9. Houston Texans – Tom Brady (30)
10. Jacksonville Jaguars – Marion Barber (25)
Round 2
11. Jacksonville Jaguars – Marshawn Lynch (22) Randy Moss (31)
12. Houston Texans – Larry Johnson (28 ) Ryan Grant (25)
The newest buzz around the league is that the Texans like Grant or Ronnie Brown instead of Larry Johnson at 12 if Moss is gone. Grant has been up and down our mock draft all week, from 18 in 1.0 and all the way down to 12 on 3.0. I think taking Grant (projected rank: 13) at 12 is much more reasonable than taking Brown at this pick, who has a projected rank of 24. Still, don’t be surprised if the Texans went with Brown on draft day. Either way, every team planning on picking a running back after the Texans in the 2nd is going to be at the whim of GM Jacob Wooley, and these teams will have some quick decisions to make. Johnson is going to be a steal later in the draft.
13. Washington Redskins – Willis McGahee (26) Ryan Grant (25) Willis McGahee (26)
The Redskins, who were looking to snag Grant, will most likely stay young and go with McGahee to compliment Lynch. A two headed running back monster of McGahee and Lynch bodes well for Washington’s future. Washington will definently have some nice young pieces to add to moving forward.
14. New York Giants – Reggie Wayne (29) Willis McGahee (26) Larry Johnson (28 )
The Giants will presumably take Johnson at 14 if he falls to them. Johnson, at 28 years old and coming off an injury plagued season, would make a nice addition to Brian Westbrook on a win-now team like the Giants. Westbrook and Johnson are fantasy machines, and if the Giants snag both of them, look for them to be extremely competitive this upcoming season.
15. Arizona Cardinals – Tony Romo (28 )
16. Seattle Seahawks – Braylon Edwards (25)
17. Buffalo Bills – Andre Johnson (26) Reggie Wayne (29) Peyton Manning (32)
Latest rumor is that Buffalo favors Manning, a 32 year old QB over Andre Johnson and Reggie Wayne. Sometimes, GMs don’t like having their two key players come from the same team, but in this case it shouldn’t be much of an issue. One would think that Manning has the capability to be a consistent star in this league until he’s well into his 30’s. You have to like what the Bills are doing if they decide to tandem Manning and Addai.
18. Miami Dolphins – Ryan Grant (25) Peyton Manning (32) Ronnie Brown (26)
The latest word is that if Manning is gone at this point, the Dolphins would have no problem selecting Ronnie Brown. Brown has potential to be an amazing sleeper at 18th overall, because he is a younger running back who virtually carries all of his team’s offensive load. If the Dolphins went with Brown, they could still win-now, since Brown gets nearly all of his team’s carries. Note: Don’t be surprised if the Dolphins try and trade to get Peyton Manning or a win-now quarterback after the draft.
19. Cleveland Browns – Ronnie Brown (26) Andre Johnson (26) Reggie Wayne (29)
The latest rumor is that Cleveland likes Wayne over Johnson at 19. Wayne is more of a win-now pick than Johnson is, but with Wayne you are still going to get a superstar wideout for 2-3 more seasons. The Lions still favor Fitzgerald over Johnson, which means that Johnson will very likely make his way to the 3rd round. If Johnson gets to the Browns picking 22nd, don’t be surprised if they take him.
20. Detroit Lions – Larry Fitzgerald (24)
